Her Fake Engagement by Gigi Garrett

No artists, no smokers, no men with beards… Manhattan real estate broker Lottie Langerman feels confident that if she follows her long list of dating rules, she’ll meet The One and her life will unfold exactly as planned. Everything changes when her best friend decides to throw a fake bachelorette party—just to see what all the fuss is about—and Lottie reluctantly agrees to play the role of bride-to-be for a night.

Faking an engagement turns out to be more fun—and trouble—than Lottie could have imagined. Not only does her dream man think she’s taken, but Lottie keeps running into bearded Brooklyn jewelry designer Tyler, who breaks every single one of her rules...yet manages to get under her skin like no one else. Soon, Lottie finds herself at a crossroads where she must decide: Play it safe—or ditch the rules and follow her heart?

Lottie lives her life by a set of rules she refuses to break, which includes a lengthy list of dating rules. Although her rules are tossed out the window when her married friend decides she wants to let her hair down for the night and ropes Lottie into playing the part of bachelorette for a faux bachelorette party. Then things go sideways when Lottie finds herself intrigued by an artistic jewelry designer who breaks all of her rules. Will Lottie allow herself to fall for him or will she find someone who is better on paper?

I’m on the fence about this one. While this one’s billed as a romance, it actually fits the Chick Lit genre as it’s more of Lottie and her friends figuring out who they are. So, if you do pick this one up, keep in mind the romance takes a backseat.

While I enjoyed the story, I wasn’t really a fan of Lottie. She’s comes on as pushy and rather than letting people be who they are, she seems to push people into going along with what she wants them to be. She’s also so bloody whiney and she made me growly.

The pacing of the plot was a little uneven and rather boring in spots as it verged from romance, to chick lit, to a sort of social study. The story did pick up in the last few pages but, sadly, the ending was abrupt and left me wanting more.

Overall, this was an okay read. I do think the plot and the characters could have been fleshed out a bit more.
